Nowadays, becoming a hairdresser is a growing career choice. As with several skilled occupations, a cosmetologist will need to complete a course of study at a beauty or cosmetology college.
The schooling requirements for becoming a hairdresser consist of training at a postsecondary public vocational or trade college or private beauty college. These types of training colleges have certificate programs in hairstyling. It can also consist of alternative forms of individual appearance training, typically called a cosmetology program.
Specific high schools might also offer hairdressing classes. In some instances, a high school may have a partnership with a vocational or trade school where you can begin training for for your specified trade while you are still in high school.
A cosmetology training course is often completed within 9 months. There will be starter courses that are intended to show the basic methods for coloring, styling, and cutting. It will usually cover the chemicals utilized in styling and the ways of sanitizing and keeping up a clean work environment.
When you progress to the advanced courses, you will begin to learn more specific knowledge focused on hair styling. Subject matter like specific state laws and regulations, and salon ownership will be covered.
While doing all your in-school studying, relatively little class time is spent performing actual hairdressing work or skills. That is because a lot of the training or study time is done while performing procedures on fake or artificial hair.
Upon receiving a certificate for completion of the classes, you will be certified to become a hairdresser. The subsequent step is to get your license and then begin to seek employment. In many situations, a salon will hire you as an apprentice or assistant. This is generally the way hairdressers perfect their craft because they will finally be working on actual customers in a real life salon.
Don't worry or get nervous. Always remember that hair styling is your passion. Stay focused and continue to learn during your apprenticeship. The quicker you perfect your craft, the sooner you'll be on your way to a successful cosmetology career.
